Progress continues on the new cab – the picture illustrates the old saying “measure twice, cut once” – here three of the volunteers are trying to make the original metalwork fit to the new plates that have been prepared – unfortunately, the old material has been modified at some time in the past and is no longer the original shape.

The solution was to make another cut in the original, remove a v-shape section and re-weld – result is a perfect fit (close examination of some of the other original pieces show that this is the exact process that has taken place more than once in the 100 year life of the loco.

Future steps will include a workshop on hot metal riveting for those volunteers who wish to learn this skill.
