The 2874 Trust has been formed to ensure the restoration and then operation of the ex Great Western Railway 2-8-0 heavy freight locomotive number 2874. We will use the restoration to promote the retention, development and spread of the skills required to rebuild, repair and operate historic machinery.  We will then use the operation of the restored loco on Heritage Railways to demonstrate our industrial heritage in the living museums that these venues create.

We aim to ensure that all who assist in the restoration either physically or with other support gain both satisfaction and enjoyment from the experience. We are keen to provide a route to involvement for as many people as possible not just those who can get "hands on" with spanners!

We are very grateful to the people and companies that have provided assistance, both physical and financial and you can view details of our Sponsors here.

Ways for you to Help

Our New Membership gives full details of the various classes and we would encourage everyone to join - the more public support we can show, including through the number of members, the better our chances of attracting external funding for the project.

We welcome donations from both members and non-members - and if a Gift Aid form can be completed we can obtain additional funds (currently 25%) from HM Revenue & Customs at no cost to the donor.

We have partnered with a Charity called "Peoples Fundraising" who have far lower platform and transaction fees than most other sites.  To donate through this route simply click on

Donations for Free

If you ever shop online, you can raise funds for the 2874 Trust through the Give as you Live scheme. You pay exactly the price on the retailers website and they make a donation - typically 1 -2%, though some promotions go much higher. To join in you must register with Give as you Live and go web shopping through their portal to your favourite sites - many of the major companies as signed up to the scheme including  Tesco, Marks & Spencer, John Lewis, Argos and even eBay.  There is also a scheme for store cards where you can pre-load a card to use in-store at major retailers, so you can raise money when doing the weekly grocery shop.

To register for the scheme click here for Give as you Live and nominate your chosen charity, which we hope will be The 2874 Trust
