The Heritage Lottery Fund kindly awarded us a grant in 2018 of £57,400 to run a series of training projects - these range from the very basic, preserving rusted components to complex machining tasks and involve both structured training workshops for the less skilled and self-development for the more advanced volunteer. This grant has been succesfully delivered and a report submitted which has been accepted and the grant finalised with the final payment.
We have now been fortunate having applied for a 2nd grant to The Heritage Lottery Fund based on skills transfer to be awarded a further grant.
The second grant in 2024 was to continue the work on heritage skills transfer with the primary focus on the skills required to work on locomotive boilers. This work is progressing and a number of our volunteers have benefited from the skills transfer and enabling us to keep heritage engineering skills alive for future genertions.

Dinmore Manor Locomotive Ltd has supported the creation of the 2874 Trust from the outset and arranged the purchase of our locomotive - they continue to provide expertise & the use of their tools and equipment, in addition to using their buying power as an established locomotive restorer and operator. We anticipate an ongoing relationship right through the restoration and we will continue to use their operational experience when we come to run a completed loco on Heritage Lines.
We are delighted that we are now being supported by Rails of Sheffield, one of The UK’s largest model railway retailers, Rails have kindly agreed to promote 2874 by circulating some 15,000 special 2874 trust leaflets.

The Veronica Awdry Charitable Trust was set up with the objective of enhancing the lives of local people. Veronica Awdry has lived in Devon for over 50 years and has a love of the local area and its residents. A former teacher, she retains a belief in the vital importance of education.
Veronica is the daughter of the Reverend Wilbert Awdry, a vicar and the author of The Railway Series. Wilbert passed on his love of steam railways to all his children, and out of this love comes the Trust’s desire to support heritage railway projects.
We are extremely grateful and may be, in some way, we are keeping The Rev Awdry’s vision alive.

Founded by Edward Harkness, who gave the Pilgrim Trust a broad remit. He wanted his endowment used for some of the UK’s “more urgent needs”. He hoped that the gift would help in “tiding over the present time of difficulty” and “in promoting their future wellbeing”.
This has given their Trustees the freedom to respond to the urgent needs of the day and to be flexible as they change. From the outset, the focus has been on social change and preservation and conservation.

Garfield Weston Foundation is a family founded grant-maker that gives money to support a wide range of charities across the UK.
In total they donate around £100 million each year. They exist to ensure charities can deliver their vital work across the UK. But they cannot do this alone. They need charities to apply to GWF and they make this as straightforward as possible. That way charities can devote more time to their work, not to fundraising.
They take their responsibility seriously to be thoughtful stewards of the funds entrusted to the Foundation, yet aim to maintain a friendly, accessible and uncomplicated approach. You don’t have to have applied to GWF before to be successful and we are open for applications all year round. If you need funds to support a specific activity or project, tell them in your application. However, you don’t need to create a project for them – if you need unrestricted funds, likewise, tell them.
GWF will listen and if we are able to support you, They will make a grant. It’s that simple. And it was! Thank You we are extremely grateful for your kind generosity in supporting us.

The Edward Cadbury Charitable Trust was established in 1945 by Edward Cadbury, the grandson of the founder of the chocolate company. His particular interest in education, religion and social welfare, together with the Quaker values of simplicity, equality, justice, peace and care of the environment, have helped shape the current grant-making policy of the Trust.
The Trustees believe that their mission today is as relevant as it was when Edward Cadbury first identified the need to support the local community. Steam museum, the based in home of The GWR in part of GWR’s Swindon Works, very kindly supported us in the early days. They supported our inital NHLF application and provided us with invaluable information relating to 2874 . They also kindly allowed us space for our display stand at their Festival of Steam exhibition over a number of years , where we made many new friends and were able to promote the 2874 Trust in the best possible venue .

The GWSR have supported us from the start offering us a home, welcoming us and of course allowing us full access to their facilities. We continue to work closely with them and support them when ever we can and we trust that when 2874 is returned to operational condition , this by then our unique operational 28xx will be seen reguarly working on the line.
A day out travelling the line between Cheltenham Race Course and and Broadway is almost a must for any one wishing to travel through some great countryside and hauled by a beautifully restored heritage locomotive
We are extremly grateful to Warners Publications (BRM magazine) for inviting us to the 2025 NEC Festival of Model Railwaying and the 2026 Bristol and West Show at Thornbury. It was in part due to our Sisters of Steam and Young Engineers initatives . Both shows were extremly well attended and we hope to be back at Bristol in 2027 .
