September Update Gloucestershire’s High Sheriff Julie Kent MBE visits us
We were extremely fortunate that Gloucestershire’s High Sheriff, Julie Kent MBE accompanied by her husband and Consort Bernard found time to visit us during the weekend of the GWSR Rail 200 Event.
Julie found the time to talk to a number of The GWSR volunteers and find out a little of what they and indeed we do. The 2874 Trust is delighted that she found that time in her busy schedule. Here are some o fher comments subsequent to the visit and images of her visit .
The invitation was from David Holmes a trustee of the 2874 trust.
With a mission centring on restoring and preserving a particular steam locomotive: GWR (Great Western Railway) No. 2874, built in 1918. In addition to physical restoration, the Trust promotes heritage engineering skills, especially to train volunteers and newcomers in the technical craft of steam locomotive maintenance and operation.
They love having young people out to see what they are doing & take a trip on the steam train which travels from Cheltenham Racecourse to Broadway via Winchcombe and Toddington .
I particularly enjoyed meeting Sky & learning about the ‘Sisters of Steam’ ⚜️👯♀️
The 2874 Trust are always looking for volunteers & supporters 😂 🚂
Julie and Bernard also ran their own charity, Emily’s Gift so they, more than most, understand the rigours of running a charity.
