The loco has been under the Trust's ownership since 2016 and this is the story so far - further details are given in each year's diary.

2016 - Dismantling and boiler removal.

2017 - Work on the boiler to de-scale and preserve.  Work in earnest on fund raising and publicising the Trust.  Application made to the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) for a full restoration Ultimately unsuccessful but encouraged to modify the application and re-submit.

2018 - Grant from NLHF focusing on the preservation and development of heritage engineering skills using the restoration of our loco as the primary training platform.  This grant opened the door for applications to funders for other aspects of our project.

2019 - Shot blasting and preservation work.  Start made on fabricating new cab and manufacturing new eccentric straps.

2020 - Covid gets in the way!  Further help from NLHF to ensure we can make progress as soon as restrictions lifted. Valves bored.  Wheelsets overhauled including new tyres fitted.

2021 - Covid still causing problems.  New axle box under keeps obtained.

2022 - New rear drag box casting obtained.  Start made on fitting whole new rear drag box and buffer plank.  New from buffer plank obtained.

2023 - Reverser/Timing mechanism overhaul started.  

2024 - Further application made to NLHF - grant made to continue our project of training and developing heritage skills with the emphasis this time on boiler work.

2025 - Work in earnest on the boiler with removal of the remains of the front tube plate and manufacture of a new one.  Boiler turned over to facilitate work on the firebox.  Foundation ring removed.
